Get to know our board members a bit more below! 

Secretary - Christina Valdez
Secretary - Christina Valdez

Christina Valdez-Hughes is the WHSAA Secretary and an active alumni member. Christina graduated in in 1994 and is am a Denver (Villa Park), CO native. Christina earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in International Business & Marketing from the University of Colorado – Denver (1999), she currently is a telecom professional/project manager with over 20 years of telecom experience and presently works at LUMEN.

Historian- Rita Cordova
Historian- Rita Cordova

Rita Cordova graduated from West High School in 1963. She worked in the office in secretarial positions at West High School from 1987-2000 and has served on the West Alumni Board at various times from 1990 to the present. Rita is the Historian and oversees the Alumni Room. In addition, she helps co-coordinate running the West Campus Food bank with many of alumni volunteers for students and families. Rita has two adult married children and two grown grandchildren.

Treasurer- Angelica Rueda
Treasurer- Angelica Rueda

Angelica Rueda is a member of the class of 1994. She is currently the Treasurer of the West High School Alumni Association. For nearly 20 years, Angelica Rueda has developed programs and worked with historically underrepresented student populations to expand college access. Angelica focuses on affecting first-generation, low income, students of color. Currently Angelica works for the Community College of Denver managing programs to improve the student experience.

Barbara Lopez
Barbara Lopez

Barbara graduated class of '78 and is currently serving as a West High Alumni board member, volunteer at the West High Alumni food bank, and on the Scholarship Committee. She was a proud West High cheerleader and met her husband while in school here. She and her husband have stayed very involved with the school and have continued support for sporting events and the Singing Christmas Tree.

President- Bernie Lopez
President- Bernie Lopez

Bernie graduated from West High School in the class of '67 and is the President of the Alumni Association '20-'21. He was a teacher and coach in Denver Public Schools for 30 years and then a substitute in DPS for an additional 20 years. He considers himself fortunate to have been able to teach on-and-off at West High for 15 years. His involvement with the West High Alumni Association started around 1975 as faculty representative to the Alumni Board.

Scholarship Committee Chair - Carol Grant
Scholarship Committee Chair - Carol Grant

Carol is a graduate of West High School and has served DPS families since 1994. She has provided support to families grieving the loss of loved ones, determining immigration issues, dealing with suicidal clients, runaways, and substance abuse. She has led grant-funded programs and after-school programs to support the academic needs of children. She has also supported administrative staff by assisting in school crises and daily operation.

Emilio Lopez
Emilio Lopez

Emilio graduated from West High in '69 and has been a member of the board since 2018. His sister and four of his brothers also graduated from West High which inspired his mother to get her GED. All while raising her 10 children on her own. Emilio works with the other board members and volunteers at the food bank to serve the families of West High School on Fridays and Saturdays. He also enjoys fishing and getting together with the other 69ers at Christmastime to exchange gifts and catch up.

Dan Pagilasotti
Dan Pagilasotti

Dan graduated class of '64 and is the first vice-president of the current board. His parents, siblings, and aunts and uncles all graduated from West High School. He has retired after a 37-year career with Denver Public Schools facilitated by his attendance at West High.
